Here's Marketing Agency Info: Report on Numerous Agencies and Free Whitepapers

Here's something you'll be interested in if you're looking to hire a marketing agency. It's the 2010 Agency Business Report from DMNews. (DM = Direct Marketing) This is a trade publication for the marketing & PR industry.

While it's true that not many library systems have the luxury of hiring an agency, it does happen for those doing big campaigns. And sometimes, agencies have special prices for nonprofits. Conversely, if you're a marketing expert who is afraid that a cash-strapped library might eliminate your job, you might look to these agencies for new jobs. Part of the report indicates that hiring is on the rise.

The main section of this particular report is an alphabetical list of short profiles on many, many agencies across the US and around the world. You can quickly learn what each one specializes in and can get their basic contact info.

In a larger sense, clicking around the DMNews site gives you a good overview of "the other side" -- how marketing professionals think, what matters to them, etc. There are also plenty of other articles that can help you learn about the industry. Happily, there's a whole library of Whitepapers, with titles like "22 Quick Tips for Better Email Marketing" and "Linking Media Coverage to Outcomes." They are free after you register your contact info. Of course, nothing is totally "free" and at the registration area, the site does acknowledge this: "In order to provide you with this free service, we may share your business information with companies whose content you choose to view on this website." But this is normal practice, and I give them points for not trying to hide it!

If you're interested in learning how marketing agency professionals operate, browse around this site; I'm sure you'll find some useful tips.
