This year we are trying out a summer reading for adults program @ WDFPL. Like most libraries, we are trying to do more with less as demands on library staff increase, leaving little time for new project creation.

Staff batted the idea of adult summer reading around back in 2005, after reviewing the Seattle Public Library's program. Luckily, Seattle Public's program is still going strong. Here's a link to details on Seattle Public Library’s sixth year in the adult summer reading business if you want to check it out.

WDFPL will model Seattle Public Library’s program and add an Ice Tea and Talk Reading Circle on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 to conclude the summer reading program. Summer readers can meet at the library to talk about books read during the lazy days of summer in person. Comments and suggestions will be posted the library’s Reader Reviews blog.

Diane Cann, WDFPL’s Children's Librarian, recently shared a few pages from her 2009 New Jersey Statewide Summer Reading Program manual targeting adult reading. These resource pages may also prove helpful to public library staff members considering implementing an adult reading program this summer.
