Top 10 Forecasts from Futurist Magazine, 2009

Futurist Magazine released a YouTube video of it's top 10 predictions . I thought two predictions spoke to conversations many in the field have been having over the past year...

#6. "Professional knowledge will become obsolete almost as quickly as it's acquired. "
#1: By 2030 everything you say and do will be recorded.

Interesting, I hadn't seen this before. Thanks for sharing.

I really question the idea that professional knowledge is going to become obsolete so quickly, however. Certainly information will continue to explode, but if the definition of an expert is someone who has extensive, organized knowledge which can be readily and relevantly retrieved as needed I don't see how new professional knowledge will render the old obsolete. It seems reasonable that our need to remain continuous learners, updating our knowledge, will be important in many fields, but I don't this correlates to "obsolete" information or knowledge.

yes, the one about knowledge becoming obsolete is a little scary. I took it to mean that, by the time a new bit of info has been absorbed by people in a professional (thereby turning the info into knowledge), some more-advanced info will already be replacing it.

I can see this happening to medical doctors... as soon as a new advance becomes common knowledge & practice, it will be outdated b/c something more advanced has already been discovered.

This would sure make life a lot harder to keep up with! Maybe we'd better start an electronic newsletter called "Your Daily Data Delivery" so we can be at the forefront, ready to be the ones delivering all the updates.
