Free Books

It feels funny to write that headline seeing how we are in the business of free books but this is a bit different- free ebooks by and for libraries.

The concept is brought to us by Techsoup (who are full of great ideas)- MaintainIT- a totally interactive site where librarians can share their knowledge with each other. The idea of free e-books (they call them cookbooks to keep with their food brand) written by librarians. Cool gathering place to share, discuss and learn. Wouldn't you like a place like that on your website?

Read it first from Stephen Abram's post at Stephen's Lighthouse...

Your next target audience.....

Saw this over at Tame the Web... love it on so many levels.

Great format for libraries to use to make their own videos
Really sums up the energy of this generation ... even re-branding them - " Generation We"
Inspires .... will we allow this generation to reinvent libraries so that we can be a necessary part of their plan they need to save the world?

Be Green When Weeding

No, this isn't about clearing out your garden for fall. It's just a tidbit about what to do with books that you weed from your collections. I found this useful resource and just wanted to pass it on.

This list was compiled by an individual in Colorado, and is dated March 2008, but the organizations that will take or exchange used books are mostly "evergreen" ones (so to speak) so the list should be good for some time.

Most of us hate to throw books away, so it's nice to know of some groups that will use them or help you pass them on -- some even share profits with the donating library. Worth a look!
