The comic is launched!

Whew! What a day at EPL... the mayor, kids, teen, parents, grandparents... two great graphic novelists... and Super Librarian and X-Libris in person! Here's a fun video from yesterday's event. Thanks to all the libraries that helped make yesterday a huge success!

Speaking of success... I heard Princeton's Teen Book Bash was a huge success as well! NJ libraries rock!

Bike routes and Google maps -perfect together!

From Phil Windley's newsletter, Technometria.... he found this cool little application that uses Google maps for bike routes called Bikely. Here's a route he found near his house, but imagine making these (or have your favorite biking customers do it) for your town- adding your library as a stopping place, of course! The linking possibilities are endless!

This is a great target audience for libraries- lots of business people (both men and women) from the 20's through 60's are avid cyclists.

Remember that group? Wouldn't it be nice to get them into the library again?

The site also provide the ability to post running, hiking and even motorcycle routes. (Again, great target audiences!)

A definite addition to your online newsletters- adding, of course, suggested companion pieces- books on the subject, books on tape/MP3 to listen along the way and music selections....

David King had mentioned at CIL that his library, the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library, offers t-shirts to customers going on vacation and ask that they take a picture of themselves on their trip in the shirt . It would be cool to offer a package like that for bikers, hikers and cyclists (don't forget the growing numbers of people scooting!)

Better yet... invest a few dollars and offer biking jerseys with your library's name- in big, bold letters. I can see it now, can't you?

Is your library offering a personal trainer?

Apple has just released its newest marketing for training and libraries could do something very similar. Think library... and of course think free! Here it is:

"Personal training at the Apple Store.

There’s no better way to learn more, or learn it faster, than with One to One personal training sessions at the Apple Store.

Our trainers — experts in all things Apple — create a program customized to your level of experience. You can choose individual sessions covering everything from getting started on a Mac to making more out of your memories. Or explore any topic you like. All for just $99 per year.

Personal training sessions are designed to move at your pace and provide the support and guidance you need, whether you’re new to Mac or ready to master the latest pro software."

We are already offering training, why not "personal training"? Check out the wording they are using- "faster", "customized", "individual", and that last line... "Personal training sessions are designed to move at your pace and provide the support and guidance you need."
